The Audio of Being the greatest album ever made
Matthew Good has always been a killer Musician, just his way with words, and being able to match a specific mood/emotion with a certain piece of music. He has an exceptional way of moving in out of song styles and merging them together to make perfect sense. For instance on the Audio of Being you have a song called “Carmalina” which features a more aggressive almost punk-like sound, then you come upon a song called “Truffle pigs” which is a more laid back acoustic approach. Both are exceptional songs and showcase a diverse range of music, which can go from a mixture of Rock and Soft Rock, to a solid acoustic number to even semi punk at the split of hat and vise versa. The vocals and songwriting styles stay relatively similar creating a very unique sound. One that has yet to be reproduced by any other band.
The lyrics are pretty amazing to listen to. They make you sit back and actually and go ‘whoa’. What’s different about them is every song has its own meaning to each individual person. There is no generic concept to any of the songs, it’s how you perceive it yourself, I think that’s one the Matthew Good Bands greatest features.
The two songs that sell this album as A+ material would be “Advertising on Police cars” and “The rat who would be king”. Two of the most amazing songs I’ve ever heard. On my first listen to “Advertising on Police Cars” I actually broke down and started crying, and thought to myself this is the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard. Just something about it toys with your emotions. I have never really been affected by a song like this before. It was actually one of the defining moments in my life that showed me how powerful and beautiful music can be. So if you get the chance download that song, then go out and buy the album. The rat who would be king, is another prime example of the power of Matthew Good, it showcases his wicked vocal power along side a bit slower moving song.
Honestly I can’t find anything to complain about, usually on any given album you have at least 2 or 3 songs that are pure crap. Not in this case every song is perfect, and executed perfectly.
The downside is that the Album was so emotionally draining on the band it forced them to split up. But isn’t that how it usually goes, a band releases one of the best albums ever made and they either break up or die. The plus side is Matthew Good is still writing music as a solo artist, with a new band. Even with his new band I doubt he will ever be able to recreate the feeling and raw power that Advertising on police cars gave me, which is what makes this my all time favorite album.
Give it a listen I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
