It only takes two words to sum up the raw and awesome power of Kill Bill and they are sheer brilliance.

Kill Bill came out in theaters back in Oct 2003, we caught this act on opening night when I say we I mean all the staff of Nintopia.com with the exception of Cubey. What we witnessed was phenomenal.

I have always been a fan of Quentin Tarantino ever since Reservoir Dogs, so I was actually expecting a fairly decent movie. What we got was possibly one of the greatest movies of our time. Now fast forward 6 months, and seeing it 5 times in theaters to April 12, 2004. Kill bill is released on DVD.

Kill Bill is a full out no holes barred action movie from start to finish, dishing out adrenaline rushing action over and over again. Now it’s not just like your run of the mill action movie with cars exploding and guns blasting, it’s an action movie with class. Heavy on kun-fu and swordplay winding through tightly packed story line.

The whole concept of the story is one women’s fight for revenge. After trying to leave a group assassins, and move into the future and forgetting her past. She inevitably gets shot at her wedding putting her in a coma by her old boss. Needless to say they also executed her whole wedding party including the groom. Few years down the road she awakes from her coma and goes on killing spree of vengeance and Revenge. The rest is history.

Another part of the movie I thought was excellence was the ability to relate to the character of the Bride (Uma Thurman) on her quest for revenge. You felt sorry for her and cheered her on as she commenced her rein of revenge. There was even one part of the movie that hits you quite emotionally and lets you feel her loss, it’s a very subtle but also very powerful.

The whole movie is like an old school kun-fu video upgraded for the present time. The directing and filming was excellent. Just some of the shots taken and the misplace of colors did a wonderful job creating a dramatic effect. During one of the massive fight scenes in the movie, it kicks in to black and white, for the whole fight scene then as soon as she killed the last guy it kicked back leaving you sitting in your seat screaming for more.

Besides color changes partway through the movie it kicks into Anime, explaining part of the story through Japanese Animation. The way the story was told was pretty neat and innovative using a combination of Japanese animation and real footage.

One of the best part is the over exaggerated use of blood spray, it gave it a somewhat comedic element while brining realism to the fight scenes, by not cutting out on the blood.

The movie in total was such an epic that it had to split up into two parts Volume 1 and Volume 2 which comes out in 3 days. There are also rumors that third one is currently being talked about but nothing official yet.

Kill Bill stars an ensemble cast featuring Lucy Liu (Play it to the bone, Charlie’s Angels) Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction), Vivica A Fox(Two can play that game) and who could forget David Carradine (Kun-fu legend continues). Fight choreography by the master himself Yuen Woo-Ping

The DVD is lacking in the area of special features only containing trailers for the three previous Tarantino movies and Kill Bill 2 as well as a video by the 5,6,7,8’s and a making of featurette. I am sure when the box set of both movies comes out they will add more but till then I guess we will just have to wait.
